ben body

Explore human anatomy together with Ben Body. It is a combination of CT scans and anatomical models in 3D that makes the inside of Ben a detailed visual experience of a healthy human body.

Skin

Skin is the most extensive and heaviest organ of the human body. It is composed of several layers of tissues and represents the first barrier of protection to the environment.

Muscles

We have 639 muscles. 570 of them are skeletal striated muscles. The others are smooth muscles involved in the digestive system and the myocardium (heart).

Thoracic & Abdominal Organs

Lungs are the primary organs of the respiratory system. The lungs together weigh around 1.3 kilograms. Together, the lungs contain approximately 2400 kilometres of airways and 300 to 500 million alveoli where gas exchange takes place.

Vascular System

The heart is a muscular organ found in most animals, which pumps blood through the blood vessels of the circulatory system. Blood provides the body with oxygen and nutrients, as well as assisting in the removal of metabolic wastes. In humans, other mammals, and birds, the heart is divided into four chambers: upper left and right atria and lower left and right ventricles.

Lymphatic System

A lymph node is an organized collection of lymphoid tissue, through which the lymph passes on its way back to the blood. Lymph nodes are located at intervals along the lymphatic system. Several afferent lymph vessels bring in lymph, which percolates through the substance of the lymph node, and is then drained out by an efferent lymph vessel.

There are between five and six hundred lymph nodes in the human body, many of which are grouped in clusters in different regions as in the underarm and abdominal areas.

Nervous System

Its weight is approximatively 1.2/1.4 kg. It is the main piece of the central nervous system with the spinal cord. It controls our concious and unconcious body activities. Around 100 billion neurons are present in the human brain.

Gas

A portion of the gases produced in the gut passes through the intestinal wall into the bloodstream where it is then carried to the lungs. 30% of the gases we exhale come from the activity of gut bacteria. As a result, gas breath tests can be used to diagnose lactose intolerance.
